“I grew up in Newfoundland, Canada. The forest was my playground, the ocean was my equivalent of a television. My imagination and inspiration sprang from the beauty surrounding me. I want future generations to experience the same wonders of nature that I did during my childhood. Please join me in choosing sustainability and raising our voices in anticipation of Earth Summit 2012!”

Sara Canning

Born and raised in Newfoundland, Canada, Sara was quick to become a storyteller. While studying Arts at the University of Alberta, Sara performed in the Teens at the Turn Festival at Edmonton’s Citadel Theatre. Deciding to pursue her love of acting as her career, she packed up and headed to Vancouver to study at Vancouver Film School.

Since graduating, Sara has enjoyed working in the Vancouver film industry, as well as having her work take her to Winnipeg, Manitoba, and Atlanta, Georgia for two years. Television credits include Smallville, Kyle XY, and two years as series regular Jenna Sommers on the CW’s hit show The Vampire Diaries.

While living in Atlanta, she studied theatre at The Company Acting Studio. She has starred in a number of films, including in a role opposite James Van Der Beekand as LeVar Burton in Lifetime’s Taken in Broad Daylight. She donned a Scottishaccent to play the hardened homesteader Maggie McGregor in the award-winning Canadian period piece Black Field. She was honoured with the Best Performance award at the Vancouver Women in Film and Television Festival for her performance. This fall, Sara can be seen starring alongside John Corbett in a Lifetime film called The Hunt for the Killer.

Sara is also studying screenwriting, working on two screenplays in the hopes of bringing her own stories and characters to the screen. She is a proud Champion of the We Canada Initiative, raising awareness in anticipation of the Earth Summit 2012.
